Flute Studio

Adult Students Performing in a Chamber Music Recital

I am accepting students of all ages and abilities to my studios at Hartt Community Division, in Vernon, and online via LessonFace. Lessons start on Sept. 2, and I will keep accepting students until my schedule is full.

A few words about my teaching: I have 25 years of teaching experience at all levels, including Hartt Community Division, University of Connecticut, Stony Brook University, and Marywood University. My teaching emphasizes developing solid musicianship, technique, and problem solving skills in a positive and supportive atmosphere. My students have won competitions sponsored by the Music Teachers National Association, National Flute Association, Greater Boston Flute Association, the University of Connecticut, and the Connecticut Music Educators Association; many are successfully teaching in the public schools. I have a doctorate in Flute Performance, am a member of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and run my own chamber ensemble.

I am now teaching flute at Manchester Community College. Manchester has the only Associate's degree in Music in the state of CT. It is designed to follow the first 2 years of a Bachelor's in Music, and to be easily transferrable. If an affordable Associate's in Music is a good goal for you, I'd be happy to talk to you about it. Please visit http://www.manchestercc.edu for details.

East Tennessee Suzuki Flute Institute International

The Hartt School Community Division, located in West Hartford, is the community arm of the Hartt School of the University of Hartford. I teach both Suzuki and Traditional Methods at Hartt. Hartt offers open enrollment lessons to all ages and levels of ability, and it is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Pre-Collegiate Arts Schools. Students at Hartt Community Division are also able to participate in Chamber Music, Large Ensembles, Musicianship Classes, and the Performers Certificate Program at reduced tuition. Hartt also has a large and well regarded Suzuki program. For information on Suzuki study at Hartt, please read this description at the Suzuki Association of the Americas website. If you are interested in studying at Hartt Community Division, please visit their website or call them at (860) 768-4451. Also, please contact me at Hopkins@BarbaraHopkins.com so I know to look for your materials.

Lessons in my Vernon studio offer students who live "East of the River" an opportunity to take lessons close to home. It is also a more economical option, as there is no overhead. I teach in a fully equipped studio, with access to a complete library of music and recordings.

My LessonFace online studio allows me to connect with students anywhere, regardless of location or transportation. Lessons are reasonably priced, and I can teach group classes as well as individual lessons. It offers parents the ability to observe their children's lessons from any computer, and I have passed a background check required for teachers of students under 18.

Contact me at Hopkins@BarbaraHopkins.com with any questions, or to enroll in lessons.
